Introduction

The Indrahar Pass Trek in Himachal Pradesh is one of the most amazing treks in the Indian Himalayan region, blowing the minds of many hikers of all ages with its breathtaking scenery, dazzling streams, deep gorges, serene lakes, and deodar forest all along the path. The trip is the perfect fusion of various natural beauty and traditional Himachal colours, ranging in elevation from 2,875 metres to 4,425 metres. A portion of the Dhauladhar range is exposed and may be seen from the Indrahar Pass, which connects the districts of Kangra and Chamba. It also shows Lake Mankiani and Lake Kareri’s placid waters.

Starting point of trek

The Dalai Lama’s hometown of McLeodganj is the starting point for the easy to moderate Indrahar Pass walk, which ascends to Triund at 2,875 metres. The climb to Triund via the villages of Dhramkot and Galu Devi offers breathtaking views of the Kangra Valley and the town of Dharamshala below. After leaving Triund, the path turns off in the direction of Lahesh Cave through Laka, passing through a meadow with lots of stones. The day’s journey begins from Lahesh Cave to Indrahar Pass by traversing the ridge’s northeast face straight through the rocks, keeping the intimidating peak to the right. The trail continues and includes more ascents after passing the summit. The view from the pass is just stunning.

Unending waves of mountain ranges rise to the north, including the Pir Panjal to the north, Kishtwar to the west, Bara Bangahal to the east, and Manimahesh to the northeast. To the south, the Kangra Valley and the distant Punjabi plains are obscured by a blue haze. The trail continues to descend to Chhata, crossing a large black boulder and a raging creek before emerging into a breathtaking valley filled with a wide variety of wildflowers. The route winds its way via Kuarsi Nala and Chhata to Kuarsi before splitting off at Brehi to lead to Lamu and Donali. Brehi is the closest town to Minikiani Lake, and the track leads there via Drakund, passing through a dense forest. After leaving Minikiani Lake, the trail continues on to Kareri Lake.
